Off-Grid Living in Skowhegan, Maine

I've been digging into Skowhegan, Maine for folks curious about setting up off-grid, and the headline is genuinely unusual: the town has no general residential or commercial zoning map. Skowhegan told its residents plainly that outside of Shoreland Zoning and Floodplain Management overlays, there are currently no use-based zoning districts in town. That's a big deal if you're used to fighting county zoning boards elsewhere, but it doesn't mean anything goes.
