Off-Grid Living in Anson, Maine

I've been digging into what off-grid living actually looks like in Anson, Maine, and the honest headline is: Anson is a small town with real ordinances and a real permitting process, it's not a "no rules" rural township. Don't assume you can just buy land and do whatever you want out there.

Zoning. I found nothing in Anson's own rules singling out composting toilets for extra restriction, but confirm design and permitting with the local inspector.

Greywater. Same story as septic, it falls under the state's plumbing rules as applied locally. No separate Anson greywater ordinance turned up.

Rainwater harvesting. No Anson ordinance on this, and Maine doesn't have a dedicated statewide rainwater statute either, so this looks genuinely open, though I'd still mention any storage or plumbing tie-in to the local inspector.

Wells. No Anson-specific well ordinance found. Well construction follows Maine's Water Well Commission standards, and upkeep afterward is on you as the owner.

Utility disconnection. I found no explicit Anson rule banning or blessing living off-grid without utility hookups. Whatever gets required will come out in the building/plumbing permit process, so that's the office to ask directly.
