Off-Grid Living in Golden Valley County, Montana

I'll be straight with you: Golden Valley County, Montana is one of the toughest places I've tried to research for this site. It's the state's third-least-populous county (seat: Ryegate, under 900 people), and I could not find a working, official county government page covering zoning, building, or environmental health. Septic: The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) sets statewide minimum wastewater standards, and local health boards or sanitarians administer individual septic permits under that state framework, similar to how neighboring counties handle it. I couldn't confirm who holds that role in Golden Valley County specifically, so ask the courthouse who your local sanitarian is.

Greywater: No county-specific rule found, so the state administrative rule applies by default: permit-free indoor greywater reuse is generally allowed through a compliant system, with restrictions on subsurface irrigation.
